Opportunities for A New Food Regime Under the Pandemic Conditions / Orkun Doğan & Olcay Bingöl, Yerküre Local Studies Cooperative | Sustainability Talks 14 - Webinar
The third webinar of the Sustainability Talk Series on food and agriculture will feature Orkun Doğan and Olcay Bingöl, partners of Yerküre Local Studies Cooperative, as our invited speakers. Moderated by Murat Bayramoğlu from the Özyeğin University Sustainability Platform, the talk will take place online via Zoom on May 4, from 17:30 to 18:30.
The new session of our talk series on agriculture and food systems within the context of the pandemic will give us the opportunity to hear agriculture and food policies advocated by global civil and social movements. We will explore the problems pointed out by social movements and aggravated by the pandemic in the fields of food, agriculture, and recommended solutions in the face of these problems. Then, we would like to shift the focus of these discussions to Turkey. In doing so, we will address the current structural problems of agricultural production in Turkey and the type of risks caused by the COVID-19 pandemic in the fields of agricultural production, food assurance, and food access. In line with the concept of food sovereignty we had addressed in the previous talks of the series, we will discuss with our participants the steps that need to be taken by the central and local governments and the solidarity mechanisms that civil initiatives and social movements can develop for a more crisis-resilient, fairer, and less harmful agriculture and food system.
